Luma Health Announces Patient-Centric Telehealth Solution: No App, Login or Portal Required

As the new coronavirus sweeps across the country, providers are racing to adopt patient-centric telehealth solutions to find ways to continue delivering needed care.

Luma Health is answering the call with the launch of Luma Health Telehealth as part of our Total Patient Engagement™ platform. Our easy-to-use telehealth solution enables one-click, HIPAA compliant virtual appointments between doctors and their patients. It can be integrated with a clinic’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to support bulk telehealth appointment conversion and ad-hoc video appointments.

Patient and doctor telehealth visit

We are hearing from providers that they have given up on their telehealth solutions because they are too complicated to use, are not integrated with their EHR, or just don’t work. During the current pandemic, doctors and their patients don’t have the luxury of time or resources to set up a complex solution to provide and receive care. Rather, they need a simple solution that works.

Our team has logged more than 10,000 hours during the last three weeks to bring to market a simple, elegant patient-centric telehealth solution that works and, with one click, allows providers and patients to connect in a virtual appointment. We already have multiple providers onboarding and using Luma Health Telehealth to convert in-office appointments to virtual visits.

Samantha Guthman, COO of Alexander Valley Healthcare, an FQHC based in northern California, is one of the first to use our new telehealth solution to continue delivering routine and chronic care to the residents in Northern Sonoma and Southern Mendocino Counties.

“Many in our community just don’t have the technology skills or tools often required to set up for a virtual appointment with their doctor,” Guthman said. “But they do have health issues that require regular care, which for many has been on hold since the coronavirus started spreading here.”

“A simple solution for both our providers and patients – that is integrated with our EHR system – is critical to ensuring everyone gets the care they need.”

According to a recent survey of 534 doctors in family, pediatric and internal medicine, more than half (52%) said COVID-19 has had a severe or close to severe impact on their practices:

  • 58% have had to cancel well and chronic care visits
  • 83% have available appointments

Hundreds of thousands of non-critical patient appointments have been postponed or cancelled resulting in a potentially insurmountable backlog. Many specialty clinics including ophthalmology, endocrinology, dermatology, orthopedics, podiatry and sleep centers are forced to close as a result of shelter-in-place. Our telehealth solution can help providers overcome and address these challenges head-on.

Chuck Leider, CIO, Houston ENT and Allergy Clinics, is another early adopter of Luma Health Telehealth. “We don’t have the luxury of time right now,” he said. “Like most clinics, we are facing unprecedented challenges: First, we are unable to see patients in-person due to the critical need for social distancing. Second, when we can’t see patients, we lose the revenue that keeps us in business. Being able to implement Luma Health’s Telehealth in less than 24 hours and immediately offer virtual visits that require no additional infrastructure and are seamless for the patient is crucial for our valued community and our business.”

Our patient-centric telehealth solution is built to solve this problem. It quickly and easily converts your entire schedule to HIPAA compliant telehealth appointments.

The survey also revealed:

  • Nearly half (46%) of primary care practices have no capacity for COVID-19 testing
  • 74% report their phone lines are flooded with patients calling concerned about the outbreak

This data reflects what we’re seeing in the market. As part of our comprehensive COVID-19 offering, we’re working with providers to digitize patient screenings. Providers are using our online survey functionality to screen patients and reduce call volumes. View a sample COVID-19 patient screening survey here. This online survey can be customized and broadcasted out to all patients or to a subset of high-risk patients.

We want to dramatically improve clinicians’ ability to screen patients and get the right message and information out to patients to address fears, concerns, and false information as the world navigates COVID-19.

I hope you find these COVID-19 tools useful during this crisis. I would like to invite you to attend our upcoming telehealth webinar, where we will be addressing how to convert existing scheduled appointments en masse into telehealth appointments.

In the meantime, stay healthy.
